Having self-confidence is one of the essential traits that a person should have in order to succeed in this life. However, unfortunately, there are too many people who lack self-confidence. The following are some tips in order to build self-confidence.
· Face your fears.
There are many things to fear in this world. If you let your fear get the best of you, you will never succeed. Sean Covey, in his book, Seven Habits of Highly Effective bazinga Teens mentioned that “All great deeds… were accomplished in the face of fear.” And indeed, think of what should have had happened if the scientists were overcome by fears. There will be no scientific breakthroughs and we might still be in the caveman era.
Not only does it make you look good but it also makes you feel good. And if you’re feeling good inside, you radiate this positive feeling towards others. You should learn to smile even under pressure, even in the face of your worst nightmare. By doing this, you also maintain composure. As the song says, “Smile, though your heart is aching. Smile, what’s the use of crying?”
· Focus on your positive side.
As Baz Luhrman said, “Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults” You can list down your positive qualities such as your talents and good traits in a piece of paper and carry it in your pocket all the time. When someone taunts you or wants to put you down, remind yourself of the good qualities you have. If there are times when you’re feeling depressed, you can just look at this piece of paper so you can be reminded of your worth. Just be careful or you might turn out to be arrogant. You don’t have to go boasting about your abilities.
· Be yourself.
Do not pretend to be someone who you are not. You cannot gain confidence if you are only pretending. Judy Garland said it well, “Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.” Acknowledge your good qualities but accept that you also have bad qualities in you. In this way, you can change for the better. Moreover, by being yourself, you are also learning to love yourself. And when you love yourself, that’s where confidence in yourself seeps in.
Now, these are but a few tips in building confidence. Remember that by doing these, I cannot still assure that your confidence will build instantly. Building confidence is much more complicated than reading a few tips and following it. In the end, it will still be in your hands whether or not you’ll be self-confident.
